Drums and Sunshine for 17,000 in Naha Marathon

Runners came from all over Japan and the world to take part in the 16th Naha Marathon on Sunday. It was won by Fumio Yamane from Kanagawa prefecture in two hours, 31 minutes and 29 seconds. A total of 17,887 runners competed, with 63 % of them going the whole distance. The 42.195 km race started at the city’s Asahibashi Intersection and went to southern Okinawa.

The race day was warm, with strong sunshine. The highest temperature of the day, 23.7 C, was recorded at 12:41 pm. Many locals lined the streets to cheer on the runners, some with Okinawan drums.
