Junk cars a problem

Date Posted: 2001-08-30

Iím new to the island but thereís one problem that I canít help but notice. That is the huge number of old junk cars everywhere. Why canít people take their cars to a junkyard for proper disposal? Almost every natural beach I visit has one or two rusting cars in the area, often half overgrown with vegetation.

Why canít local authorities track the last owner of these eyesores and remove them at their expense. All cars have a body and engine number, and it should be an easy task on this time and age of computers to track down the morons who have discarded their junk with complete disregard of their fellow residents.

And by all means, the cars do not seem to be the only junk thatís littering the greenery around the island. Old tires, refrigerators, TV sets, you name it. Itís all there. I think itís high time something be done about this. Maybe thereís a citizensí group or association that has taken up this task. As things are now, it is an absolute shame.
