Okinawan teaches Eisa to island immigrants in Mexico

Thirty-two-year-old Fusae Iju, of the Ryukyu Kingdom Festival Taiko group, recently described the details of a January visit to Mexico to instruct Okinawan immigrants in the art of Eisa dancing, the Ryukyu Shimpo newspaper reported. Iju said that traditional Okinawan culture had been handed down to even those immigrants who cannot speak Japanese and added that the number of people attracted to Okinawan culture was increasing all over the world. Iju has been a dancer with Ryukyu Kingdom Festival Taiko for 13 years. He stayed for about one month in Mexico City, where he taught several styles of Eisa to members of groupís Mexico branch.
