In most cases, whether a restaurant will do a good business or not depends on how many hit dishes it can offer in order to attract repeat customers who then tell their friends.

Rose Garden, an Italian restaurant owned and run by American Ray Payne, is not the kind of spaghetti house you can find everywhere around Okinawa. “Authentic” is the catchword among repeat customers to describe the food and atmosphere here. The restaurant’s menu and style is aimed at northern Italian cuisine that is also very popular in America. The restaurant offers various dishes of Italian and American flavors, and considering the popularity of the place and the number of regular customers who come time and again, that is what the public in Okinawa wanted.

Rose Garden Chicken Classico (¥2,200) is the biggest hit on the dinner menu. It is a roasted chicken’s course; the chicken is stuffed with avocados, tomatoes, and zucchinis and three kinds of cheese (natural, red cheddar and parmesan), and roasted in the oven resulting in a perfect home-cooking style chicken. The course includes Milanese Beef Minestrone soup, Fresh Garden Salad and Chicken and Baked Cheese Cake Supreme.

Soups, sauces, cakes and salads all originally made in the restaurant’s kitchen have attracted a steadily increasing number of patrons, who rave about the place to their friends afterwards. Besides, every regular customer has his of her favorite cake originally made in the kitchen whenever they visit.

Popular pastas include Maria’s Meatball Spaghetti, Cassiatora Chicken, and Salsichilia Italiano Spaghetti.

Clam Chowder Pescara is another remarkable hit that is made using fresh cream and milk that forces the sense of taste to ask for another helping. It’s creamy, thick taste leaves a sensation not expressible by words.

Originally made sausages of Salsiccia Italian style are the special for breakfast and available at other times as well. The spicy taste is good enough to stimulate the appetite to the point of not wanting to stop. Fresh pork and fresh pork’s oil are cooked together to make the attractive taste come out. Sausage spaghetti is a popular menu item especially among American customers.

The sauces for steaks and spaghettis are made in-house too. Fresh pesticide-free herbs are picked up right here in Okinawa for soups and other dishes to add a nice flavor.

The cakes served as desserts include Earl Grey Tea Cake, Carmelina’s Apple Pie, La Grande Carrot Cake and many others. During the Tea Time (from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.) the restaurant gives a fifteen percent discount from cake prices.

Jaclyn Kurdila and Yvonne Adams from Camp Kinser were having a lunch and echoed other customer’s opinions afterwards. “We definitely come back. The setting is good, and the steaks and soup were good. Cozy space…. Staff is nice. We will come back as soon as possible.”

To get to Rose Garden; take Hwy 329 from Okinawa City towards Ginowan to the south. The restaurant is located on the left side on the road right after passing the A&W. Free parking is available in front of the restaurant. The phone number to Rose Garden is 098-932-2800.
