Five rules to enjoy Eisa using your five senses

Date Posted: 2001-08-22

1. First of all, you should pay close attention to the performance of each group. Every group has their own characteristic dress, formation and harmony. Look at the concentration on their faces, their trained muscles beating the drums and sweat dripping from their foreheads.
2. Just listen to Sanshin and songs, the high-spirited festival music accented with brave Taiko beating, and loud cheers of near-by Uchinanchu (Okinawan) spectators, especially elder people.
3. Take a deep breath and enjoy the lively spirit of the young dancers.
4. Using your whole body, touch the wind of Okinawa that carries the heart of rhythm and performers.
5. At last, let your heart dance to the Eisa as it feels like doing (so). Move your body to the music, and remember, the joy is to be shared. Join hands with anyone who is around, and just dance until you are overjoyed.
