Engine trouble delays Naha-Kagoshima ferry

Date Posted: 2001-08-22

A Ryukyu Kaiun Co. ferry on way from Naha to Kagoshima reportedly stalled out on the open sea at night on Saturday because of engine trouble. The point where the ferry was forced to stop was about ten kilometers off Cape Sata in Kagoshima prefecture.

The engine crew of the ferry managed to make emergency repairs on the engine, and the ferry arrived at Kagoshima Port on her own at eight on Sunday, after a twelve-hour delay. There were no reports of injury on the crew or passengers.

According to a spokesman at Ryukyu Kaiun Co., a part of the engine’s turbocharger broke and stopped the engine.
