Flat Rate Internet Connection Becomes Available

Date Posted: 2000-12-01

Internet users in Okinawa have long complained about high costs of being on the web here. Not only have they had to pay the monthly fee for their service provider, but on top of that, the local telephone company is charging a telephone fee per minute just the same way as for local telephone calls.

Now things are promising to change for the better. NTT, the national telephone carrier, has introduced a service where the telephone charge for the Internet use is a flat ¥4,500 per month, regardless of the time the user is on the net.

The service is available with Internet providers who already have a contract with NTT. In Okinawa, the new service will be available starting Dec. 5 in Naha, Urasoe, Okinawa, Ginowan and Nago cities. Other locations will come on line next year. An ISDN connection is also required. For more information, call NTT West Okinawa Branch at 0120-40283 or 875-7234.
