Law on Shell Collecting Has Not Changed

By: John Chandler

Date Posted: 2000-11-23

Dear Concerned,

Your concern for the ambiguity of my October 26th article, A Dive with Amazing Scope and Size, is right on and thanks for asking for clarification. The LAW HAS NOT CHANGED and divers should be aware that we are not allowed to remove anything from the water except our memories, and of course ourselves. That takes care of the LAW, to clarify even further, my collecting tool for either shells or lobster, is not a game bag, nor a speargun, but as you can see I favor a 35mm camera that is quite environmentally friendly. Photos are a lot easier to clean than shells and I can show lots more people my photographs than I could a shell collection. If you would like to see my collection please log on to www.jwchandler.com and enjoy.

Seriously though, my sincere thanks for your concern and taking the time to ask for clarification. Memories are best preserved on film. I will endeavor to do better in the future. Thanks.

John Chandler.

P.S. I also want you to know that I am not going to demand a recount---I was wrong."
