Earthquake Damages Okinawa’s Oldest House

An earthquake strong enough to destroy part of an ancient stone wall, took place on Iriomote island last Friday. The quake took down part of the wall surrounding the house of Nimori, the oldest house in Okinawa and designated a cultural asset by the prefecture.

The earthquake, which took place at 5.54 p.m., measured 4.5 on the Richter scale, according to the weather bureau seismic center off Ishigaki island.
