Bikers To Take Over Gate 2 Street

On Sunday November 26 is the fourth annual Gate 2 Fest, attracting motorcycle groups from all over Japan. The street will be closed to four wheeled traffic from 12 noon until 10 p.m. Starting at 1.45 p.m. there will be a Taiko Drum show. The opening ceremony is at 2 p.m. and the tape cutting ceremony at 2.30 p.m. There is a Harley-Davidson bike parade at 3 p.m. On the first stage there is a karate demonstration at 3.35 p.m. In Gate 2 Street there is a traditional women’s dance at 3.30 p.m. A beer drinking and an arm wrestling contest with three prizes start at 5 p.m. All those interested in signing up should contact the First Chance bar at 938-5955 or 090-3794-5449. There will also be games for children.

Music starts at 5 p.m. Stage 1 will feature blues, rock and metal. On Stage 2 there will be classic and modern rock and punk. On the Center Stage an open acoustic jam and samba dance will take place. Bands playing will be Y 2 Rock, Pavlov’s Dogs, Chuckwow, Zero Faith, Jet and Dave Ralston.

All kinds of bikes are welcome at the festival. Registration for the bike contest, which includes a T-shirt, is ¥2000, available from Ryukyu Custom Cycles, open 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tel 921 0257/0258.

A camp ground for visiting bikers is open from today at Okuma Rest Center and costs ¥500 per tent per night. There will be music at the campsite tomorrow, Friday November 24, including rock, blues, country and western and DJs. On Saturday there will be a live band, free barbecue and beer and a tattoo contest. On Sunday there is free breakfast at 7 a.m. and the campsite will close in the morning. Bikers can register for the Gate 2 Fest at Okuma also.
