Okinawa’s resorts offer luxury, fun and reasonable prices

Date Posted: 2001-08-16

Okinawa is the home of several world-class resorts that are second to none anywhere in the world. And what’s best, all of them offer their facilities open to local residents. In other words, you don’t have to stay in the hotel in order to be able to try parasailing or take part in a dinner cruise. Of course, there’s a fee involved, but most of the hotels offer special deals that put the fun at the resort well within reach for most people.

As an example, we discovered a new resort where one can stay overnight, gorge on an all-you-can-eat dinner and drink all the wine you want to flush it down, and finish the stay next morning with a healthy breakfast, all for less than ¥10,000. Plus they throw in a few tickets to try some marine sport or play a couple of rounds tennis. Or you can visit Nikko Alivila, sit at the poolside on a silky night, watch fireworks and listen to a live band. And you buy a couple of beers. All that sets you back about ¥1,000 or about the same you would spend at any pub downtown. Only the surroundings are more than a notch above. You can’t beat that.

Although the resorts are just now at the peak of the season, the deals are still available, in most cases through the end of August or mid September. In this and next week’s issue we’ll cover some of the best-known resorts in Okinawa. Visit to these places will add another unique experience to those who have already ventured to other tour attractions. Granted, everything in these resorts is man-made and modern. But a human body also needs pampering every now and then, and for that Okinawa’s resorts are just the right place.
