New Study Program in Hawaii

The governor of Okinawa prefecture, Keiichi Inamine announced on Monday that the name of a new fellowship will be “The Obuchi Okinawa Education and Research Program”. The fellowship program was named after former Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi, who died just before the Okinawa G-8 Summit.

The U.S.A. will contribute $200,000 to the program, which starts next year. Students and researchers from Okinawa will work at the East and West Center in Hawaii. The purpose of the program is to improve education in Pacific countries and creating leaders able to deliver it.
