Encephalitis warning issued

Date Posted: 2001-08-16

The Okinawa Prefectural Department of Health and Welfare declared a caution for the Japanese encephalitis on Wednesday, Aug. 8. This year, there have been very few cases of people contacting the disease but officials decided to issue the caution because the death rate among patients has been exceptionally high.

In order to prevent the epidemic, officials are urging people to take vaccinations regularly. They say that especially children up to junior high school age should be vaccinated.
