Band profile: Ryukyu DiscoDate Posted: 2002-03-08 ![]() “We are a Ryukyu-style techno band,” says Tetsu (aka Rkd1). “We create sounds by mixing traditional music with techno sounds. The main concept is Okinawan culture.” The group was formed because they both enjoy dance music. Ryukyu Disco began writing their own music one year ago when Tetsu bought a sampler machine and began to sample traditional music with dance music. “It was so good, so we decided to develop it,” says Tetsu. “Our music is for the next generation. It is a new style of Okinawan music, but we hope young Okinawans will like traditional Okinawan music, too,” says Tetsu. The team of brothers has managed to bridge the gap of the older and younger generations of music by creating something altogether unique. The group hasn’t released an album to date, but they have done remix work for Okinawan band Orenji Renji. “We are trying to make a demo tape to send to numerous record labels around the world, but we haven’t yet made an album,” says Tetsu. DJs Kim, 69 and VJ Yonamy Graphixx will also be performing at the party. Yonamy has been a VJ at popular events such as Hits Okinawa, Muzikcup, Color and Hellow World. He makes his own original animations by recording footage of Okinawa and mixing it using visual software. His performance at SystemSound will be spectacular. Be sure to drop by the event for a good time. For more information on the event, check out SystemSound’s homepage at www.gsv2.com/system.
