The Store That Caters to Beanie Baby Mania

By: Miyuki Shimabukuro

Date Posted: 2000-11-03

Beanie Babies are so popular that as soon as new Beanie Babies are on sale, a long line of people desperate to own a new Beanie Baby forms in front of a store. Retired Beanie Babies are traded between the collectors at high prices. Adults are becoming crazier about these Beanie Babies than children. As you know, each Beanie Baby has not only its own name but also its birthday. This may be one of the reasons that collectors become so crazy about this product.

By the way, do you know the best ty store in Okinawa? The name of the store is “Rykyu Sangokan” and is the first special agent in Okinawa. The location is on Kokusai Street in Naha. Their main business is selling coral accessories, so it might be a little tricky to find this store. Mrs. Gushiken, the owner of the store fell in love with Beanie Bears when she visited her sister in the U.S. a few years ago. She became so crazy about the Beanie Babies and she finally became a special agent of Beanie Babies. New Beanie Babies are imported regularly at this store. Since it is an official store, the newest and most varied kinds of beanie babies are imported as soon as they are on the market. Her passion and knowledge of Beanie Babies is probably unrivalled in Okinawa.

She will explain each Beanie Bear in her store with pleasure. There are some rare Beanie Bears at this store. Although it is a little far from your home, it’s worth checking it out to see what’s new. The owner’s favorite is Rover (a red dog). Rover stole her heart and never let it go.

As the year 2000 draws to its end, a new crop of Beanie Babies will soon be marking 2001. This might be a good time to look out for this year’s Japanese Beanie Bears before they disappear.

Rykyu Sangokan is making a special offer for Beanie Baby collectors. There will be a Beanie Baby Sale starting November 1st. If you buy a Beanie Bear before November 30th, you will have a chance to win a Nipponia (a blue bear only sold in Japan) for 10 people or a Sakura, a pink bear for 1 person. The winners will be drawn at the end of November and will be informed by telephone. And, this is not the last chance to win a Sakura. Starting from December, one lucky person who purchased a Beanie Baby at Ryukyu Sangokan will win a Sakura each month. If you have been trying hard to get Sakura don’t give up. For a souvenir of Japan or a Christmas present for your child, help is at hand from Rykyu Sango.

Location: Rykyu Sangokan is on Kokusai Street in Naha. It is located two doors next to Ryukyu Bank. Also, across from ABC Store. Hours: 1:00pm-10:00pm. Open everyday. 867-1135
