Okinawa Marathon Accepting Entrants NowDate Posted: 2000-11-03 The races are open to anyone over 16 years old who is in good health and are limited to 15,000 runners. Awards for the full marathon will be given to finishers in the following categories: the top six males, the top six females, the oldest, and the top foreign national. In the 10 km road race the top three male and top three female finishers will receive awards. Also all runners who complete the course will get a medal and a completion certificate. Entering the marathon costs ¥3,500 or ¥2,500 for under 18s. The 10 km road race costs ¥2000 for anyone to enter. Entry fees include insurance and a commemorative T-shirt or towel. To apply for running in the marathon you need to fill out an official application form and send it with the entry fee, by registered mail, to: The Okinawa Marathon Executive Office, 2-1-1 Moromizato, Okinawa City, Okinawa 904-0032 The application form can also be submitted in person to the Okinawa Marathon Executive Office, which is on the second floor of Okinawa City Athletic Stadium in Koza Play Field Park on Route 85 (near the interchange of Okinawa Expressway, exit 4, Okinawa-Minami or between KAB Gate 2 and Gate 5). Applications cannot be made by phone or fax, though forms can be downloaded from Okinawa Marathon Applications are also accepted at MCCS fitness centers on each Marine Camp and the MWR Risner Fitness Center at Kadena Air Base. The Ryukyu Shimpo Press main office in Naha city, the Central Branch in Okinawa city or the North Branch in Nago City; the Okinawa Television Broadcasting Co. Registration forms and information are also available from base and camp MWR/MCCS fitness centers and gyms, base recreation centers, the Navy Hospital Wellness Center, USOs and the Print 21 Shop at Camp Foster. Off base, forms can be had from the This Week office, Kitanakagusuku; The Ryukyu Shimpo Press three offices, listed above and the Okinawa Television Broadcasting Co. The day before the event, race numbers and the commemorative T-shirts and towels will be issued in exchange for registration receipts, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Okinawa Comprehensive Park Athletic Gym. Base personnel should check with fitness centers for race numbers and T-shirt information. The marathon will have distance indicators every 5 km, at the halfway point and every kilometer for the last 5 km. The fifty fastest runners will be recorded every 5 km and at the halfway point.
