Police Appeal Follows Road Deaths

Date Posted: 2000-11-03

The Okinawa Prefecture Police Department will start a traffic safety emergency appeal, in the wake of several recent traffic disasters, resulting in four deaths in two days. In Nakagusuku Village, there was a traffic accident involving six cars and a crane truck last Friday. A husband and a wife died in the accident and their daughter was severely injured.

The same day in Chatan, a man died after being thrown onto the road during a crash between a car and a truck and then run over by an oncoming car. The next day a truck hit an electric light pole and a farmer who was working in his field was killed.

The police will patrol more on weekend nights and there will be sound trucks appealing to drivers to drive more safely.
