Colleges Object to Paying New Fee

Date Posted: 2000-11-03

Okinawa International University and Ryukyu University are opposing paying a food inspection fee for their food stalls at college festivals. Food hygiene regulations changed in April, and now the owners of food stalls have to pay a fee of between 9,600 and 39,600.

However, the Executive Committees of the colleges insist that these are charity run stalls, so they should not be charged. The regulations do not require charity bazaars at elementary schools, high schools, or welfare institutes to pay the fee.

Other institutions that have already paid the new charge, last July, are the Okinawa Christian Junior College and Okinawa Art University.
