General Bureau mulls adding new runway to Naha

The Okinawa General Bureau has reportedly compiled a report based on a series of researches in consideration of building a new runway at Naha Air Port. According to the report, the new 3,000-meter runway will be built south of Cape Omine. The new runway would be long enough for the anticipated super-large jetliners.

Okinawa Times obtained the information on the basis of the local Freedom of Information ordinance disclosed the existence of the plan. Bureau officials say the report was compiled as a basic material for consideration. They added that they would make the decision on the plan only after a careful consideration of its merits. Such a decision would take into account future studies on the projected growth of air passenger traffic. Such a study is scheduled for later this year.
