Local government audits evaluated, Okinawa top

Date Posted: 2001-08-09

All Japan Citizens’ Ombudsman Conference published Friday a report on the evaluation of the external audits in all prefectures and 12 major cities in the country as designated by the government ordinance. The ombudsmen had evaluated the reports submitted by the auditors of each local government, and marked them in five different grades.

The conference concluded that, in general, this year’s auditors’ reports gave a positive impression since they could see improvements from the past. The evaluation also stated that the number of audits that clearly point out problems to the government has increased.

Among the prefectures and cities, Okinawa, Nagasaki and Miyagi received an A grade, the best. Fukui prefecture received the worst, an E grade, second year in a row.
