An officer and a writerBy: Sean Henriquez Date Posted: 2001-08-03 ![]() Anyone who knows Maj. Bert Griffith knows that he exudes the laid-back aura of the Caribbean islands, and has managed to keep a hint of his Caribbean twang. Small wonder this family medicine Physician Associate, in his eighth year at Kadena Air Base clinic, has found Okinawa to be “the best place” he’s ever lived. He loves Okinawa so much so that he met and married a local girl, Yuko Kinjo, during his first tour on Okinawa from 1991-1995. Together they have two children, ages seven and one. Born in the Caribbean and raised in New York, this prolific author of 36 medical articles and co-author of two medical education books published his first book, Conquering High Blood Pressure, in 1997. His second book The Headache Sourcebook, published in May 2001, is selling well and can be obtained at both the Kadena and Foster AAFES bookstores and via various Internet booksellers, including Amazon.com. Negotiations are also under way to translate the book for the Japanese market. When asked what inspired him to write a book about headaches, Maj. Griffith said, “during 17 years of practicing medicine, headache was one of the most common medical condition I treated. Indeed, headache is the most common medical problems affecting humans; almost all humans will have at least one headache during his or her lifetime.” Maj. Griffith began his writing career while serving as the Medical Officer aboard the US Coast icebreaker Polar Star traveling in the Arctic and Antarctic. Although his military career will soon come to an end, he will become an American ex-patriot, continuing to grace us with his writing. In fact, Maj. Griffith is currently penning his third book, 50 Ways to Conquer Migraine Headache, which is scheduled for release in January 2002. He plans to do it all from the island paradise of Okinawa ¾ in a way returning to his island roots. This well-written and practical sourcebook is the key to all migraine suffers! This guide to managing tension, migraine, sinus, and other forms of headaches can help the reader better understand a headache and how to treat it. From children to adults, this book gives tips for conquering all head pains. This book is a must read. |
