Governor declares plans for “Okinawa e-island”

Governor Keiichi Inamine made an “Okinawa e-island declaration” on Thursday, June 26, with the aim at improving Okinawan living standards, achieving sustainable economic development and making the prefecture financially independent. Inamine’s vision is to reach these goals by using IT.

At the same time, he also announced a plan to educate all teachers in government run schools with computers up to a level that they can teach their students.

The declaration also emphasizes the role of IT in industries in order to realize Okinawa’s high tech future and its contribution to international society. The governor’s plan especially emphasizes the importance of educating Okinawan people in information technology.
