Ambassador Bakes visits Okinawa, meets Inamine

US ambassador to Japan, Howard Baker, visited Okinawa for three days starting Monday, in order to have talks with Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine, and to visit the Peace Monument, Meijo University and US bases.

Baker and Inamine were talking about possible countermeasures relating to current incidents involving U.S. service members, and resizing US forces presence in Okinawa. Gobernor Inamine had earlier expressed his wish to renegotiate the SOFA, a demand that several U.S. officials including Baker have rejected as unnecessary.
