Okinawa’s population up 0.7 percent over last year

The Prefectural Department of Statistics on March 3 disclosed estimated population figures for Okinawa as of Feb. 1. A total of 1,331,589 individuals were counted, which represents an increase of 0.7 percent (9,345) over the same month last year. Kitadaito Village marked the highest growth rate with 4.5 percent, and Tarama Village was second at 2.1 percent. Kunigami Village’s population showed the largest decrease, 2.1 percent, from last year, followed by Gusukube and Yonaguni, down 1.6 percent each.
