A lancet fish, known as mizuuo in Okinawa and considered to be a messenger from the sea god's palace, was caught off Chinen Village on March 1 and brought to the Chinen Elementary School. The children were surprised and delighted to see such a large fish, measuring about 2.4 meters in length. The lancet fish is a deep-sea fish that is long and thin with sliver-colored skin and large eyes. Its meat is tasteless, and fishermen usually throw them back after catching them.
