Japan and the United States signed an agreement on March 1 to return land currently occupied by the Senaha Communications Facility in Yomitan Village to the landowner. The relocation process will begin now, although the precise date of return was not mentioned in the agreement. The two governments also agreed to build a communications facility at Camp Hansen to replace the Sobe Communications Facility, popularly known as the “elephant cage,” in Yomitan. According to the agreement most of the 61-hectare facility at Senaha will be relocated inside Torii Station, also in Yomitan Village.
