Production of Okinawan movie to start in July

Date Posted: 2002-03-08

The production of a new Okinawan movie, "Hotel Hibiscus," was announced on Feb. 27 at Hotel Sun Palace in Naha. Yuji Nakae, who directed the nationally acclaimed "Nabi-no-Koi” (Nabi's Love), will direct the film. “Hotel Hibiscus” will be based on the best-selling comedy of the same name written by Miiko Nakasone. The movie will be a family drama that focuses a girl as she grows up while depicting the cultural and spiritual climate of Okinawa and the traditional family ties that are lost in modern city life. Shooting is scheduled to begin in July, and the film is expected to be released in spring or summer of 2003.
