Okinawa ranks 1st in the nation in babies, divorcesDate Posted: 2001-07-13 According to the statistics, the number of babies born per woman during their lifetime was 1.78, which marks the smallest number in the history, but still retains Okinawa in the first place in the nation. The number of divorces in the prefecture increased to the most ever, keeping Okinawa as the number one ranking prefecture nation-wide as well. The number of suicides was 347 that were 15 people more than the previous year. The overall birth rate in Okinawa was 12.8 babies per thousand people, which kept Okinawa for the 27th consecutive year the first ranking in the nation. |
