Saikaen is a Chinese restaurant located in Mihama Carnival Park building in Chatan Town. Its 40-year old owner, Masahiro Shiroma, started his restaurant by inviting a renowned chef from Taipei, Taiwan, to join him in opening the restaurant a year ago. And despite its short history, Saikaen has already gathered a loyal crowd of fans who swear that the place serves the best fried rice in town. Shiroma also has plans to capitalize on his success. “Although we just started a year ago, I am thinking to upgrade the restaurant in order to attract lots of gourmet fans,” he explains.

For the best culinary experience, he recommends that customers should make reservations a couple of days in advance. “In that way we can cook more authentic Taiwanese dishes for only ¥2,500 per person.” The restaurant serves authentic Chinese dishes of fish, meat, and vegetables with Chinese medical herbs used as an essential part of ingredients. Chinese wines and liquors are also served by glass including lemon and apricot brandy.

However, the most popular dish in the restaurant is fried rice, which the customers can order by itself or as a part of a set menu. A customer from Okinawa City, Sachie Oyakawa, a 27-year-old professional licensed cook, came to the restaurant with her boyfriend. She says, “This is my first time to come for a dinner here. I was surprised about the way this fried rice is cooked. It’s very light and tastes good, and leaves a pleasant after taste. And it is very crispy.”

Her boyfriend had favorable comments also. “The stirred beef and green peppers taste light and look good and fresh.“ For her part Oyakawa testified that, “The green peppers and beef is well augmented with toasted sesame seeds. They really bring out the best of this dish.” Talking to other customers, there seems to be plenty of fans of the dishes served at this restaurant.

Shiroma’s recommendation from his menu is called a C set that is priced at ¥2,625 for two persons (tax included). “The price of this dish is reasonable, and it is a good combination of fried rice, stir fried beef and green peppers, dumplings and dessert,” he says. “It’s my own favorite.” During lunchtime, Saikaen serves Chinese dish buffet for only ¥892 (tax included).

Saikaen is located in Mihama Carnival Park building in Chatan Town on the second floor. The building is easy to recognize for the Ferris wheel on its top.
