Stores taking steps to stop selling alcohol, cigarettes to minors

Date Posted: 2001-07-07

The Okinawa Convenient Store Crime Prevention Conference has designated the first five stores as models, in their on-going campaign to stop selling liquor and cigarettes to juveniles.

The conference started this campaign June 22 with preparing a manual that instructs the stores to demand age confirmation of the customers when appropriate. The manual also instructs the stores not to accept children who come to buy liquor or cigarettes for their parents.

The Okinawa Prefectural Police wholeheartedly supports the campaign, and expects that the campaign ideals would become widely accepted everywhere in Okinawa.
