Okinawa has free fun and bargains galoreDate Posted: 2001-06-29 ![]() Some unique bargains offer shopping opportunities that simply do not exist anywhere else. The best kept secret in Okinawa is that every major department store in Okinawa has a kimono and obi bargain sale where they sell slightly used kimonos and obis from rental shops at base bargain prices. At the sale, the prices for these real genuine silk kimonos start from as low as ¥1,000, and that’s for a garment that would cost thousands when bought new at a specialty shop. The trick is to find when and where the sale is and then get there on the first day, as the best bargains go fast. Big department stores and shopping centers also feature weekly promotional events such as food fairs, wine tasting, concerts and fashion shows. Admission to all these events is free. Food and drink fairs always feature free samples and no one denies seconds. See Japan Update weekly event page shopping section for information on sales. |
