Motorcycle driven by airman hits, kills elderly pedestrian

A 900 cc motorcycle driven by a lance corporal stationed on Kadena Air Base on March 1 ran over a 78-year-old woman who was crossing Highway 23 where it intersects with Highway 58. The woman was taken to a hospital where she later died of her injuries. The motorcycle fell over when the driver noticed the pedestrian and jammed on the brakes, then slid and crashed into her. The driver and his wife, who was sitting on the back of the bike, were injured. There were neither traffic lights nor a crosswalk at the scene.
