Hawaiian high school student visit Okinawa

Date Posted: 2001-06-16

Organizers of the 11th Okinawa-Hawaii Student Exchange Program held a reception party on Sunday, at Okinawan Prefecture Youth Hall in Naha City.

27 Okinawan high school students who had visited Hawaii in March performed Eisa dance, in return the same number of Hawaiian students thanked by dancing hula. A student from Kiau High School in Hawaii gave a speech saying, “We want to know the high school life and culture in Okinawa and we are looking forward to the exchange.” A student from Naha Nishi High School replied stating, “Mensore (Welcome). We have been waiting for your visit.”

The group of Hawaiian students will attend classes at the same school as the students they are staying with. They will also tour historical sites in Okinawa. The Hawaiian students will stay until June 23.
