Lawmakers promise reconsideration of Awase landfill project

Date Posted: 2001-06-16

Three members of the national parliament visited the Awase tide flats, Saturday, to conduct an on-site research.

All three expressed a surprise for the fact that the land was so rich and fertile. One of those visiting, Nobuto Hosaka, a lower house member representing the Social Democratic Party of Japan said he was surprised that the land is scheduled to be filled before a thorough discussion over the plan has been conducted. He said he would bring the issue back to the national government that is currently focused on reconsidering several large-scale government funded construction projects. He added that at first he would submit the matter to the Parliamentary Land and Transport Committee that he is a member of, in order to clarify it.
