Naha City eyes Internet based services

Naha City Office has started working seriously to develop a new system to serve the residents by utilizing information technologies.

City officials say they are planning to create a system by the year 2003, which allows citizens to apply for resident cards and other official documents through the Internet. It would also enable people to book public facilities, and receive other public services through the Internet.

At the same time, within the city office a work is on the way to create more effective transactions using LAN systems. Another plan calls for issuing tourists IC cards in cooperation with contracted tour companies in preparing for the coming cashless society.
