Bullied girl asks for reconciliation

Date Posted: 2001-06-08

Parents of a junior high school girl who reportedly had been bullied by a group of girls in the same grade for about a year took their daughter’s case to a civil court after the school officials allegedly failed to take action to protect the girl.

The bullies allegedly cut the girl’s hair forcibly, her cloths were taken off and she was made to buy items from convenient stores that she did not use. The victim’s parents filed a civil arbitration request against the assailants and the school. The bullies confessed to the facts, and reconciliation was reached.

However, school officials insisted that preventing the bullying had been beyond their control because it had happened during break times, and could not be predicted. The local Board of Education is now waiting for the school to investigate whether the incident had been preventable. The family of the victim is waiting for the answers and are reportedly are ready to take the case to the court for compensation, if the investigation does not lead to reconciliation.
