@CAFF is premium web-surfing spot

Date Posted: 2002-02-28

The @CAFF, located on the second floor of the Mihama Ferris wheel building, is an ideal Internet café for checking out the most interactive and impressive sites on the Web. Using fiber-optic cabling, the café has some of the fastest Internet connections I have ever seen anywhere. @CAFF has nine computers, all with lightning Internet speeds and high-resolution flat monitors.

Their state-of-the-art computers, 1.5 GHz using Windows XP, cost ¥400 for 30 minutes plus ¥10 per minute over that. The 700 MHz computers with Windows ME and the 500 MHz computers using Windows 98SE cost ¥300 for 30 minutes and ¥8 per extra minute. If you are not a member of the café, you must pay an extra ¥100 to use the computers, but membership costs only ¥100, so you might as well sign up as soon as you enter the café. Membership is good for one year, and there is no extra charge to extend your membership. Also, with membership you get a stamp card, and once you get six stamps you can come in for a free day of Web surfing.

While flying through numerous Web sites at record speed, why not order a drink or a bite to eat? Coffee costs only ¥200, beer and cocktails go for ¥500 and all food costs ¥400. For long surfing sessions the @CAFF management recommends you order the soft drinks for ¥300. Once you pay, you get unlimited access to fountain beverages. Hungry? The café has Vienna sausages, boiled soybeans (edamame), French fries, Camembert cheese, fresh salad and cheese-and-chicken rolled perilla.

If you’re up for a movie, you can also bring in your own Japanese DVDs or any videos to watch on the big screen while you surf the Web. With such fast Internet connections you can download MP3s and other large files all day long without any delay, and since the café also sells blank CD-Rs for only ¥300, once you have downloaded as much as you want you can burn all your files onto CDs and take them home with you. The @CAFF also sells blank floppy disks for ¥100, and you can print in black and white for ¥20 per page or in color for ¥200 using their bubble-jet printer.

The employees at the @CAFF all make an effort to provide an enjoyable venue and premium Web-surfing spot. The café is clean and has a cool atmosphere. Also, you can use dollars here, but at a rate of ¥100 per dollar.

Quit being disappointed by your low-speed surfing capabilities at home and head over to the @CAFF for an intense Web-surfing experience. The @CAFF is open daily from noon to 11:00 p.m. For more information check out their bilingual Web site at www.i-caff.com.
