Okinawan Longevity Threatened

Date Posted: 2001-06-01

Okinawa International Conference of Longevity will be held for two days, 12 and 13 November at Bankoku Shinryokan in Nago City. Their aim is to reintroduce the traditional foods of Okinawa responsible for its longevity. These foods are rapidly disappearing as Okinawa is becoming more and more westernized.

Main sponsors of the conference say they want to express the image of Okinawa as an island of longevity to the entire world. They also want to develop more industry relating to the production of healthy food. Studies show that Okinawan longevity is threated because of the younger generationís dietary habits; younger people are suffering from adult diseases.
