Date Posted: 2001-05-25

Ginowan City Police arrested Friday a water-purifying appliance salesman on charges of theft. The suspect is also currently holding the position of a vice president of crime prevention cooperative in Itoman City area.

According to the police, the suspect visited a woman’s house for sales purpose. As he did not hear anything, he entered the house, and took ¥15,000 from a purse that he found in a bag near the front door. The woman who was out in the garden saw the man walking away, and confirmed the cash was stolen. She then ran after him screaming “thief, thief!” The man came back to her claiming that he had not stolen anything. The woman called the police, and the man admitted the charge. The suspect reportedly told the police that he did it on the spur of the moment.

The suspect has reportedly been active in the community causes, especially such as supporting the police and educating locals and juveniles about crime prevention. The incident reportedly shocked all his acquaintances, as he has been trusted.
