Date Posted: 2001-05-10

The Department of Finance of Okinawa Prefecture General Bureau filed a report on conditions of employment within IT based businesses. According the report, Okinawa is still taking the first steps to get people to use computers, and has not reached a point that IT related businesses had any noticeable impact on employment figures here. But the report showed that IT and computer-related part time and temporary contracts are increasing. Only 17 percent of the firms surveyed are planning to use or are using information technology, and 60 percent of companies are using Internet just to collect information. The penetration rate of PCís, including those in homes, in Okinawa is 20.6 percent, whereas the nationís average is 37.7 percent.
