Firms strive for profits despite of depression

The Okinawa Branch of the nationís largest financial research company, Teikoku Databank Ltd. announced its ranking of firms with high incomes according to each industry for last year.

According to the data, 585 firms in 27 different industries reported morethan •40 million of taxable income. The total amount of reported income of those firms was •1,007 billion. The top ranking industry on the list is construction with 153 firms, and taxable income totaling •18.5 billion, the most ever recorded. Among the 19 industries that increased their taxable income, IT related industries ranked the first with its rate of increase of 277 percent compared to previous year.

Teikoku Databank concluded that the fact that both the total amount of taxable income and the number of firms increased compared to previous year means each firm is making an effort to improve their business fortunes in the midst of the nationís long depression.
