Fine weather attracts crowds to Naha Harii

The 27th Naha Harii was held on Saturday at Aja Port in front of a crowd of 100,000.

The main race, Hon Harii that has a history going back about 600 years was a competition between teams of Tomari, Naha and Kume. Tomari team won the race the second time in a row.

Ugan Harii was conducted with slow boats to the sounds of gongs and a karate performance before the Hon Harii to pray for its safety and success. Hon Harii started with Naha Mayor Takeshi Onaga waving the start signal. Tomari defeated the two other teams with their perfect teamwork.

Organizers say Naha Harii Festival attracted a total of about 200,000 people during its three days of fine Golden Week weather.
