Car scrappers come under tighter scrutiny

The change in Waste Disposal and Public Cleaning Law that made car scrapping the responsibility of the owner starting from 98. Also, all car-scrapping businesses in Okinawa need to acquire permit that designates them collectors and movers of industrial disposal.

Prefectural officials have been urging the 139 car scrappers in Okinawa to get their permissions in order by this coming June, but so far only 25 of the scrappers have obtained the permits. Some scrappers without the permit have piled up cars outdoors, and have been pressed by public health officials to amend their business practices. Prefectural officials are planning to inspect those scrappers that do not have their permits in order by the deadline.
