Garbage problems mushroom after holidayDate Posted: 2001-05-10 At Painagama Beach in Miyako Island, empty cans, glass bottles, pet bottles, charcoal, leftover food and other garbage are littering all over the beach, and what’s worse, smelling bad. In order to preserve the beauty of public beaches, Hirara City officials state that countermeasures such as prohibiting BBQ should take place. One of the garbage cleaner said lots of garbage is anyway piled up after the holidays but this is abnormal. He added that it is totally acceptable to have some fun but there should show some good manners and consideration toward others using the beach. Also at popular Hiji campsite at Kunigami Village, people left a large amount of garbage in spite of efforts to urge people to take care of their own garbage. Extraordinary amount of trash were reportedly left out at places hidden from sight. |
