Seasonís first mangos appear on market

The yearís first locally grown mangos from greenhouses arrived Friday at the central farmersí market in Urasoe City.

The first auction of the season that took place the same day recorded the highest price ever for the fruit, a whopping •20,000 per kilogram. A total of 7.5 kilograms of mangos were brought to the market on that day, and they were sold in less than one minute. Last year, a total of 414 tons of mangos were brought to the market. This yearís crop is expected to be 550 tons.

The main season for mango fruits starts in June, and the normal price for mangos grown outdoors is about •1,000 per kilogram.
