Local Girl to be National TV Drama Heroine

Date Posted: 2000-10-21

Ryoko Kuninaka, 21, a native of Naha City, was elected to play the role of heroine in the national NHK television’s morning drama “Jura-san” to be aired every weekday morning in 15-minute episodes starting from April 2001. She was picked from 2084 hopefuls who auditioned for the role.

The heroine role in the morning drama is considered to put any aspiring actress on the fast lane to the stardom, and is therefore eagerly sought after among young female actresses.

Kuninaka will play the role of a young Okinawan woman named Eri Kohagura, the real-life maiden name of her mother, although the producers say the story is not based on her mother’s life.
