Local Salaries Urged Paid in New Banknotes

Officials at the Ministry of Finance are urging companies in Okinawa to pay the part of the salaries of their workers using the new 2,000 banknotes in order to boost its popularity. Local citizens have received the new banknote less than enthusiastically, claiming that because of its color it is easy to mix up with a 5,000 note. It is also impossible to use in vending machines. Local banks reportedly have 350 million notes lying in their vaults, as few people are requesting them and some even refusing to receive one when offered.
