Luxury liner calls at Naha on maiden voyage

Italian-made luxury liner Star Princess made a call at Naha Port on Feb. 22 as part of her maiden voyage. Weighing 109,000 tons, the 290-meter-long vessel has a 2,600-passenger capacity and a crew of 1,200. It is the largest passenger liner in the world and the largest ever to drop anchor in Japan. Passengers in 50 busses spent six hours sightseeing at Shuri Castle and Kokusai Street and left for Osaka at 6:00 p.m. The 26-day cruise, organized by U.S.-based Princess Cruises, began in Singapore and will terminate in Los Angeles.
