Date Posted: 2000-10-13

A junior high school teacher in charge of a brass band club has spent money set aside for his studentsí tour expenses. The Naha school teacher received •1,450,000 from Naha City for the Japan Tournament of Brass Bands, an event in January. The money was supposed to be for hotel and airplane expenses for students. But the teacher spent it instead on repairing instruments and paying instructors. The teacher explained that until then had been paying these expenses out of his own pocket. Some of the expenses for the trip were paid by parents and a bazaar was held to raise money for expenses not covered by a subsidy from the PTA.
