Date Posted: 2003-02-28

The women’s professional golf season is set to begin, with the 2003 Daikin Orchid Ladies’ Golf Tournament hosting the opening event. Played at the Ryukyu Country Club in Tamagusuku Village south of Naha, this tournament has set the stage for the upcoming season for women golfers in Asia since its inauguration in 1988.

The three-day tournament gets under way Tuesday Mar. 3 with amateur participants playing first for a three-day contest. The pros take over Friday Mar. 7 and the tournament then runs through Sunday.

The tournament, with Daikin Industries as its main sponsor, has a total purse of ¥60 million. Last year’s winner Kazumi Fujii and 2001 winner Yuri Fudoo will lead a pack of 90 professional and amateur golfers vying for this year’s honors.

Tee off is at 8 a.m. each day. Tickets cost ¥3,900 for three days or ¥2,000 at gate for the day. Final round day tickets are ¥3,000. Island Market has a limited number of tickets available, first come first served. To get yours, visit Print-21 concession in Foster Services Mall.
